Why We Proof-Check Every Design Before Printing
![]()
Every few months a merch misprint goes viral. Recently, official K-pop merchandise drew attention online for a spelling mistake on a tote bag and printed portraits that fans said looked nothing like the artists. Fans paid good money and received something they could not proudly use. Mistakes like these are rarely about the printing machine. They happen before printing, when nobody stops to check the artwork properly.
At Teesgraphy we have spent 30 years as a family business in the garment and printing industry, and today we run our own large manufacturing unit in Hyderabad. One lesson has stayed constant: a five-minute proof-check saves a five-hundred-piece reprint. Here is the exact checklist we follow before any design goes to print.
Why Proof-Checking Matters More Than the Printer
Modern screen, DTF, sublimation and embroidery machines are very accurate. They print exactly what they are given. That means a typo, a low-resolution photo or a wrong colour code will be reproduced perfectly on every single piece. Once fabric is printed, the cost of the blank, the ink and the labour is gone. For bulk orders of round neck T-shirts, hoodies or tote bags, one missed error can multiply into hundreds of unusable pieces and a missed event date.
Our Pre-Print Proof Checklist
Spelling and Grammar
We read every word on the artwork letter by letter, including small text such as dates, taglines, names and website addresses. Brand names, employee names and event titles are matched against what the customer typed in their order, not what the designer remembered. Numbers on jerseys and dates on event tees get a second read by another team member.
Language and Meaning Check for Non-English Text
Telugu, Hindi, Korean, Japanese or any other script can look decorative to someone who cannot read it, and that is exactly where errors hide. A missing character or a reversed glyph can change the meaning completely. When a design includes non-English words, or religious and cultural text, we ask the customer to confirm the exact wording and, where needed, have a native reader verify it. We never "guess" a script from a screenshot.
Resolution and DPI
Photos taken from social media are often 72 DPI and look fine on a phone but blur at A3 print size. We check that artwork is at least 300 DPI at the final print size, or supplied as vector (AI, PDF, SVG, CDR). Faces and portraits get special attention: if a photo is too small or heavily compressed, the printed face can become unrecognisable. We will tell you honestly when an image is not good enough and suggest an alternative.
Colour Accuracy
Screens show RGB colour; fabric and ink behave differently. For brand colours we ask for Pantone or HEX codes and compare them to our ink and thread charts. Dark garments may need a white underbase so colours do not look dull. For corporate orders we can share a physical sample before bulk production.
Placement and Size
A logo that looks perfect on a flat mockup can sit too low on a large size or too wide on a small one. We confirm print width in inches, distance from the collar, and whether sleeves, back or pocket prints are needed. Mugs, bottles and tote bags each have their own safe print area, and we check designs against those templates.
Trademark and Logo Safety
We print your brand, your event and your original artwork. Before printing we check that logos belong to the customer or that they have permission to use them, and that the design does not copy another company's trademark or character. This protects you as much as it protects us.
How Our Proof Approval Works
- You share artwork or an idea on WhatsApp or email.
- Our design team prepares a digital mockup showing product, colour, print size and position.
- You check every word and approve in writing.
- Only after approval does the order move to our production floor.
This simple step is why schools, startups and corporate teams trust us with time-sensitive bulk orders. And because we manufacture in-house, we keep quality high and cost low without cutting corners on checking.
Tips to Get Your Artwork Print-Ready
- Send the original file, not a screenshot or WhatsApp-compressed image.
- Type out the exact text separately so we can cross-check spelling.
- Mention brand colour codes if you have them.
- Tell us the product, quantity and deadline up front.
